I've been taking ortho tricyclen birth control pill for a week. How long does it take to get in my system?

- If you mean how long until it can effectively be used as birth control, it usually takes about a month. You should use a second form of birth control in addition to the pill for at least the first month you are on it.
- I work in a pharmacy and all of my pharmacists tell bc patients to use another form of bc for at least a month. They are "supposed" to work within a week, but do you really want to take that chance!!
- you should definitely wait a month. that is what my OBGYN told me when i went on the patch... it is in your system, but to be in full strength, a month is the safest way. mine as well wait, considering you took the time to take the pill, wait a couple of weeks...
- That's the pill I'm on and my doc told me I would be protected after one full week. Everyone used to go by one month to be on the safe side.
