Ortho TriCyclen?

I am on Ortho TriCyclen. I know that there is a way you can skip/move-back your period by skipping pills. Which ones do you skip?

  1. You sohuldn't, it will mess your body up. But if you are on 28s then skip the last 7 pills and start a new pack (the last 7 pills would be during your period) If you are on 21s then when you finish your pack start a new one the next day after you take the last pill (which would be you don't take any pills for the 7 days of your period)
  2. I would NEVER skip. Never MAKE your body do things like that, it will effect other things. Talk to your DOCTOR about this, NOT US.
  3. Ortho Tri-Cyclen is very difficult to skip a period with because the hormone level changes each week (tri-cyclen). If you just skip your placebos and go on to your next pack you're getting a lower level of hormones (first week of pills) than you were just taking (third week of pills), so breakthrough bleeding is very likely. Here's a website that does give some methods for OTC you could try: http://thewelltimedperiod.blogspot.com/2004/07/skip-period-with-triphasic-pills-you.html If you really want to skip periods more successfully, you'll probably want to switch to a monophasic birth control pill (hormone level stays the same throughout the pill pack). Also, it's not true that you have to have a period every month. I've been to two gynecologists who say it's fine and they have actually recommended it. I skip my period on Yaz so that I only have my period every 3 months or so. Again, this was recommended by my doctor, so I have no worries! Next time you have a check up talk to your doctor about it.
